I have agreed to co-mod the community tv_icontests. This week's challenge is NCIS. If you would like to try to make icons from different TV shows, then join and play. It is quite challenging!

This is how I roll. I participate in lots of icon challenges. And, I vote in lots where I haven't entered. I am pretty liberal when voting but there are a few things in icons that just won't get my vote.

1. WTF? - I won't vote for any icon that contains that. Why? I certainly have on occasion used all three words so that isn't the reason. It is not original and not necessary. Think of something more original.


2. Bad Aspect Ratio - This is one of my pet peeves. Half the time people don't even adjust their TV's anymore and I really don't understand how they can watch. They don't even notice that their icons are out of whack. If it doesn't look close to real life (and isn't some obvious artistic choice), I won't pick it no matter what. Even if the mod has provided caps with bad aspect ratio then fix them!


3. Bad Color - Let me explain that a bit - I will vote for unusual coloring but if I think that the maker couldn't figure out how to get better color, then no go. At least try.


4. Bad Font Choice - Using very large fonts, text that I am unable to read (and I know I am supposed to) and comic fonts for serious topics loses me. There are thousands of fonts (most of which I have on my computer) so how could someone chose THAT one for THAT icon?

Of course, if the icon has some spark of imagination or is extremely creative or if the maker was reaching for something but didn't quite get there - I will vote for an icon that isn't great. I'd rather encourage the fling!

Back to some regularly scheduled cheerfulness.

i think lots of people make them because everyone needs one. They aren't worthy of competing though.

I have seen some that did it on purpose and usually those ones end up looking silly and amateur.

the bad color goes along.

ugh the font is the thing most likely to piss me off.
