Meanwhile, I'm trying to get a handle on Photoshop, and have made some crappy icons myself, but boy oh boy - it's more difficult than I thought. :)

Don't worry, you will get better. Read tutorials and try them out and see what works for you. I was horrible at first check out this post (http://casett.livejournal.com/9102.html) if you haven't seen it before.

Thanks. Feel free to take whatever icons you like but don't forget to credit - here is a tutorial (http://www.meticulouschaos.geek.nz/rulz/credit.htm) to help with that.

There are lots of icon makers on Livejournal and most are happy to share their icons as long as you credit. Even more fun is to make your own. All you need is a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro, PhotoShop or GIMP (that can be downloaded for free). There are a ton of tutorials on how to make icons and it becomes very addictive. Some sites include icon_tutorials, psd_tuts and iconick. You can subscribe to these sites. The problem is the more your learn the more you want to do and it never ends.
