I Saw Live Celebrities (what a bad subject line!)
As anyone reading this knows, I don't post much personal stuff on LJ. My life generally isn't interesting enough to bore my LJ friends with. However, I did attend my first Con today and had a great time.
I spent much of the day today at Polaris 22 in Toronto, Canada. It is just an hour drive for me and I thought it would be a good way to get my feet wet. My buddy Matt had agreed to go with me, but had to work this weekend on a large project, so my sweetie who is not that big a Scifi fan, agreed to go with me. Love is a wonderful thing!
OMG I enjoyed it and for sure will spend more time next year.
1. We attended the Q&A with Gareth David-Lloyd. He was cute and funny and enthusiastic. He had been to Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls yesterday and enjoyed them both. He wanted to call John Barrowman but it seems that the cell phone he bought because it would work anywhere doesn't work in Canada. One audience member offered to take him with her to Maria tomorrow so he could touch base. Lots of other stuff I can't remember.
(Oh - I did go to see How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria" a couple of weeks ago. My camera ran out of batteries and I got no pics of John but he is better looking in person.)
And, my camera didn't seem to be happy today but I did manage to salvage a few shots of the guests.

2. We then saw Cliff Simon who everyone said is a great speaker at these things and he really is. There were not very many SG-1 fans there but Cliff was pleasant and able to fill in all the gaps with anecdotes and personal observations. Lovely man.

3. After lunch we saw Rachel Luttrell. Was I ever wrong about her personality - she is bright and bubbly. One of her high school friends was there and she talked a little about growing up in the Toronto area and about her mixed heritage and how that affected her and her portrayal of Teyla. Highly entertaining.

4. Then "we" went to the Buffy Singalong for "One More with Feeling" as I had heard about these things but never been. Yes, with my bad, tone deaf voice I sang along. However, by this time my sweetie was getting tired (and he was not at all interested in the singalong and - how in the world with all that racket - he nodded off). I had a great time though.
5. Finally, we bought some cool Doctor Who stuff (Tardis Bank for him; Doctor, Jack,Rose Martha, Tardis package for me; Serenity book for both of us) and headed home through the thunderstorm.
I definitely want to go to another Con, stay longer and see more.
